How did the Tings learn to bake?
Mike and Anna Ting are engineers with degrees in Electronics and Communications from Batangas City, Philippines. They have also been baking enthusiasts for most of their lives. They love to read baking books and watch YouTube for the step-by-step procedures in baking. In 2007, they moved to Dubai and worked as engineers while baking for family and friends during weekends. In 2012, they attended baking classes from Wilton Jumeirah and L'atelier des Chef in Le Meridien Hotel. On the last quarter of 2013, the couple decided to accept cake orders from friends of friends. The cake orders eventually came every weekend and that served as their training since then.
Where did you come up with the name Baker Ting?
Mike Ting is the bestower of the name Baker Ting. He wanted to incorporate the family's surname to the business name, and since "Ting" sounds like THING, it will definitely catch people's attention. They were narrowing down names that will match with it and they ended up with "Baker." The name just clicked. Also, the URL was available. :)
How did the cakeshop get started?
Anna started posting pictures of her desserts on Facebook and got a huge response. Before they knew it, orders were coming in and Baker Ting was born. Soon after that, their cakes and cupcakes were requested by British and Arabic bosses of big companies in Dubai. All thanks to the Filipina secretaries and admins who shared their Pinoy cakes to their superiors and colleagues. It has been a wild ride ever since.
